Supporting parents in navigating youth violence

Guiding Young Minds understands the fear, pain, tears, and strength it takes to support their child who may be involved  in youth violence; or indeed the desperation and fear experienced in trying to keep them away from such violence if they are at risk of  becoming involved.

As a service we offer parents valuable support and the resources needed to help them address their youngster’s needs and mental and emotional well-being, factors which may have led to their current behaviour

Resources and crisis support for parents

GYM offers educational resources and guidance to help parents understand and address challenging behaviours in young people and to support their emotional well-being – we seek to help you to help them.

We also offer a 24-hour phone line: 07908 156992 for times of crisis, as we know that support in the moment or a little encouragement to take the next step can make a great difference to a parent or child, when dealing with violence in the home or community.

Practical support navigating emotions, behaviors, and other mental health services

GYM also provides practical advice on how to help children and young people with their feelings and behaviours, life events and even mental health conditions if applicable. We can provide information on accessing other support services, including CAMHS, and help you to navigate the complexities of mental health support for young people.

For young people themselves we seek to establish life-altering relationships through the delivery of a specialist, holistic service. By guiding young people through growth and development in a positive way while at the same time exposing them to choices, we empower them to transform their lives.

The GYM service empowers parents to be the best support they can be for their offspring and other young people in their lives and fosters a sense of empowerment and advocacy for both parents and children.

Channel 4 documentary
"Jacob's Story”

In this documentary a mother tells how she first picked up the signs that her young son had started to become involved in the County Lines network, and how things quickly escalated with awful consequences. GYM is committed to supporting parents and working with young people to help prevent tragedies such as these.

We truly believe that no one is:

" IN TOO DEEP TO MAKE A CHANGE "

We want to support the young people you care for to make that change happen.

As they succeed we will support them and empower them to share their story with others, helping other young people to see that change is possible. All it takes is for one person to believe in change to grow that change in a community!
