Mentoring

One to one mentoring

One to one mentoring is at the heart of Guiding Young Minds Provision.  The team’s core values include compassion and understanding, with a focus on nurturing relationships and empowering young minds.

To achieve this it is of first importance that all GYM mentors are able to build positive and respectful relationships with young people.  We would not and cannot expect any young person to work with a mentor they do not trust or respect – our aim therefore is to provide mentors who absolutely can be trusted and respected, and who will walk positively with a young person through the obstacles they face in life

Having built this essential relationship , our mentors aim to instil confidence, motivation, and a sense of purpose in their mentees.  Their approach emphasizes attitude and behaviour management, aiming to empower young individuals to make positive efforts in the world and become the masters of their own successful journeys.

some words about our mentors work

The aims of GYM mentoring

Mentoring engaging in activities is important

Key values for having a successful mentoring experience

We are very aware that a young person may not have transport to get to a pre-specified venue therefore all GYM mentors travel themselves to meet the young person, either in their own home,  out in the community or at an agreed activity venue.

Most young people do not engage by simply sitting talking, therefore as part of mentoring effort is made to engage the young person in activities which interest and motivate them. As the mentor engages alongside their mentee in an activity of choice, the aim is to show them that there are wider possibilities in life than the negative behaviours they have been engaged in.  We believe strongly in engaging young people in positive activities as an alternative to negative ones, to motivate and inspire them towards a different lifestyle and so encouraging them to make more positive lifestyle choices.
